28 January 2007 [Note from the Editor: This update is a slightly different version from that distributed to Coubertin.com email subscribers. It excludes email addresses to prevent their automated gathering and spamming. It also excludes names and telephone numbers to protect our members' privacy. For full versions of updates you need to be a member and a subscriber.] UPDATE No.27 FROM COUBERTIN.COM A big welcome to all new members of the Coubertin.com Olympic Collectors' Auction service and a special thank you to all members who have participated in the auction. There are now 1,294 active members! Coubertin.com brings together more Olympic Collectors than any other club, society or organisation in the world. Members who have recently changed their address are reminded to update their details through the User Services section of the website. ISOH The International Society of Olympic Historians (www.isoh.org) December issue of the Journal of Olympic History reviews the various national teams, such as they were at the time, for the Athens 1906 Olympic Games. The various authors did a splendid job of illustrating their contributions with some very hard to find photographs and postcards. Well worth a read and very educational. GUIDE TO OLYMPIC BID PINS Thanks to the Journal of Olympic History I also found out about a new pin collectors' guide to bid pins. It is called "The Perlow Guide to Olympic Bid Pins 1960-2014" by Craig R. Perlow who is also responsible for the fabulous www.olympianartifacts.com website. Published in 2006, there are 300 pages with illustrations of every Olympic bid pin known to man. If you are interested in buying a copy you can find out exactly what it costs and the respective postage & packing by emailing Craig through the comments section of the Olympian Artifacts website. HEALEY & WISE It is easy for Olympic postal historians and postcard collectors to forget where to look when they have a chance to add to their collections. I noticed a superb range of postcards at http://www.healeyandwise.co.uk/gallery.asp?id=og this week (and there usually is too). I also saw a bargain 1952 Helsinki Opening Ceremony ticket listed for only 10 pounds sterling. Someone had better get in there quick before I do. SOCIETY OF OLYMPIC COLLECTORS In the latest edition of Torch Bearer the Editor made a plea for article contributors. If you have been researching a specialised subject in Olympic postal history or postcards or would just like to report on your experiences as a collector he will be very interested to hear from you. You are welcome to forward articles direct or through Coubertin.com. There were superb articles about the commemorative postmarks of Olympia in the last edition and another about the postal history and postal stationery for Helsinki 1940. Those of you that specialise in Olympic philately, postal history or postcards that are not already members of the Society of Olympic Collectors may like to join through the website at www.societyofolympiccollectors.org. They accept payment of membership subscriptions in pounds sterling, euros, and US dollars through Paypal. NEWS If you know of any future events of interest to Olympic Collectors please let me know for inclusion to this update.
