Update No.21

[Note from the Editor: This update is a slightly different version from that distributed to Coubertin.com email subscribers. It excludes email addresses to prevent their automated gathering and spamming. It also excludes names and telephone numbers to protect our members' privacy. For full versions of updates you need to be a member and a subscriber.]

A big welcome to all new members of the Coubertin.com Olympic Collectors' Auction service and a special thank you to all members who have participated in the auction. There are now 852 active members! Coubertin.com brings together more Olympic Collectors than any other club, society or organisation in the world.

INTERNATIONAL SOCIETY OF OLYMPIC HISTORIANS

A full-page color advertisement for Coubertin.com has appeared on the back-cover of the International Society of Olympic Historians (ISOH) 'Journal of Olympic History'. This journal is a superb publication that is well worth subscribing to. Their website is at: http://www.olykamp.org/isoh/ .

SOCIETY OF OLYMPIC COLLECTORS

Those of you who collect Olympic stamps, postal history or postcards who have not yet joined the Society of Olympic Collectors are definitely missing out. Join without delay through their website at http://www.societyofolympiccollectors.org/ . Membership subscriptions and renewals can now be paid through Paypal.

VALUE FOR MONEY AT COUBERTIN.COM

How does Coubertin.com do it? No membership fees. No listing fees. Completely free service to vendors for all lots sold for 15 dollars or less. Low commissions to vendors for all lots sold for 15.01 dollars or more. Completely free service to buyers.

Coubertin.com itself does not buy or sell Olympic memorabilia. All vendors are third-party vendors (including founder members). But Coubertin.com has two revenue streams: commission fees from vendors and sales commissions from third-party sales (through the various stores that you can find around the website). These revenues are small but cover our ongoing Internet Service Provider costs. The revenues have not yet started to pay for: our initial capital expenditure in software or software upgrades; the design of our logo; or for advertising in specialised periodicals.

These revenues are currently growing at an average annual rate of around 80 per cent (unlikely to be sustained). But if they continue to grow at half this rate (which is more likely) Coubertin.com will have paid for itself within another seven years.

We currently have no plans to introduce membership fees, nor do we plan to stop offering our free services for items listed for 15 dollars or less. The vendor commissions that we do charge have not changed yet.

So it's no surprise that Coubertin.com brings together more Olympic Collectors than any other club, society or organisation in the world.
